1. What is the Melted Crayons Mission?
Melted Crayons Mission is a grassroots pay-it-forward initiative with an emphasis on gifting new art supplies to children impacted by home fires. While these children are our main focus, we’re always keeping an eye out for opportunities to support kids facing other crises — or simply bring joy through creative, kid-centered events. There's always something to see on the Current Projects page
2. Is MCM a non-profit organization?
Melted Crayons Mission is a passion-fueled grassroots project, with a board consisting of 4 members. We are currently operating under a social-good model while our non-profit status is being processed. We may also explore fiscal sponsorships during this time. Updated stats can be seen on the Mission Reports page.
3. How do the crayons get distributed to where they’re needed?
We focus on the Denver area first, keeping an eye out for home fires where children are involved. With a little research and community awareness, we’re able to make contact and personally deliver the art supplies. It's a hands-on approach that ensures the crayons go directly to kids who need them most, at just the right time. Our incident data can be seen on the Mission Reports page.
4. Does MCM do any special events for groups of kids?
Absolutely. We strongly believe in supporting the arts and humanities in all settings and opportunities. Jeffrey has had the pleasure of guest speaking at schools, sharing his vivid art career as a commercial art painter. We also give out crayons to kids on Easter Sunday when we see families out in the community. We invite neighborhood kids and parents to the shop, and we lay out the huge Smash Mouth (Shrek “All-Star” song) backdrop that was donated back to us after the tour—kids get to walk out on it and see it up close.
5. Does MCM have an extensive background in art and business?
Yes. The founder, Jeffrey Alumbaugh, brings the experience to MCM from a 30-year-long painting career specializing in large-scale commercial art painting. He has worked with major corporations, the US government, and numerous classic rock bands from the 70s and 80s. There is much more information on the Backstory page.
6. How can I donate to Melted Crayons Mission?
You can donate online directly via our website. It’s quick, secure, and every dollar goes toward helping kids through art and creativity. Whether it's a one-time gift or ongoing support, we make it easy to give in a way that fits your style. Please visit the Events and Pledge page for our current funding needs.
7. What does my donation support?
Your donation helps us in many targeted ways. It goes toward purchasing new art supplies and delivering them to children impacted by crisis — especially those affected by home fires. It also supports community outreach like pop-up events, school visits, crayon handouts, and weekly promotional card handouts (our only form of paid marketing). A portion helps cover essential operational costs, such as business software and office/shop expenses tied directly to mission-related work. We’re hands-on and grassroots, so every dollar goes straight into the mission. You can see current data on the Mission Reports page.
8. Can my business sponsor Melted Crayons Mission and events?
Absolutely. Local businesses are key to what we do — from hosting countertop donation boxes to sponsoring crayon handout events or special outreach moments. We offer custome tailored flexible options that let you show your support in a way that fits your brand and makes a real difference. Reach out and let’s chat about what’s possible! There's more details and contact information on the Sponsors Information page.
