Briefings Released On the Last Day of the Month
Briefing will be published late Thursday 07/03
Mission Highlights:
May brought horsepower to the mission in the form of a newly acquired 1977 Chevy van, soon to be transformed into the official GoCrayZ Cruiser (Mock-up pictured). This classic vehicle will serve as a mobile outreach unit, allowing us to deliver art supplies directly into communities and make the mission more visible and accessible. Alongside this milestone, the MCM website received a major overhaul to improve clarity, navigation, and sponsor-readiness.
Creative Fuel:
I completed a professional stage backdrop as a side project for an out-of-state band, and all proceeds from that commission were directed straight into MCM. It was a reminder that even legacy skills can help fund new chapters.
Looking Ahead:
June will mark the start of the GoCrayZ van’s transformation into a fully branded mobile tool for art supply delivery, storytelling, and special event giveaways. We are also preparing for Color Blast 100, our Independence Day outreach where 100 crayon boxes will be handed out during the community fireworks celebration to spark awareness for the arts and humanities.
Mission Highlights:
April marked the launch of Phase 2 of Melted Crayons Mission, anchored by the 2nd Annual Easter Day Crayon Giveaway—this time officially under the MCM name. The original plan involved staging a street corner setup in a bunny suit to create a playful setting for handing out crayons to children. Although a shortage of donations prevented the full concept from unfolding, our flexible backup plan kept the day active. Crayon boxes were still distributed throughout the city, and the event marked our first outreach activation funded entirely by a sponsor. Special thanks to KB Photographer for making it happen.
Connections & Community:
We welcomed our first in-studio visitor for a behind-the-scenes tour, which included a show-and-tell of the iconic Smash Mouth backdrop (from the band known for All Star, featured in the movie Shrek), recently returned to us after its time on tour. We also connected with Tom Gormley, author of INFERNO! And the Miracles of the Colorado Marshall Fire. His insight and encouragement served as a reminder that generosity and community support matter deeply in the aftermath of trauma.
Looking Ahead:
With Phase 2 officially underway, April set the tone for the months ahead. May would introduce key infrastructure developments, including preparation for a mobile unit, broader sponsor conversations, and the continued evolution of MCM’s public presence.
Mission Highlights:
The Melted Crayons Mission website soft launched to friends and family on March 21, 2025—my mother’s birthday. In the three weeks leading up to that milestone, I worked intensely to design and build the site from the ground up. While far from complete, it represented a meaningful first step in making the mission publicly accessible and giving it a digital home.
Foundation Work:
After the soft launch, I began researching sustainable ways to strengthen the mission's foundation—strategies that could work with limited cash flow while still getting supplies into the hands of children. I explored how local businesses might eventually play a role in outreach and support. This was also when I began shaping plans for the Easter Day Crayon Giveaway, knowing we’d need a creative approach to overcome funding obstacles.
Looking Ahead:
March exposed several key gaps—both financial and operational—that needed to be addressed before expanding the mission’s reach. April would mark the beginning of Phase 2 and the first public-facing efforts to move Melted Crayons Mission from concept to reality.
