What We're Up To Currently
Melted Crayons Mission is always in motion, and this page highlights the projects we’re currently working on. Some hitting the streets, some being hand-built behind the scenes, and others growing week by week. Whether it’s tools to help us respond more efficiently after a home fire, spontaneous crayon giveaways, custom project and prop builds, or improving the visitor experience, every effort here is part of the larger mission in action.
2nd Annual Easter Day Crayon Giveaway
This Easter, we hit the streets again—cruising the community and surprising families with a splash of color and goodwill for the arts. When we spot a parent with their kid(s), we gift them a fresh box of crayons (or colored pencils for older kids), along with a card featuring a QR code that quickly connects them to the mission.
This year's giveaway was supported by a generous local photographer who specializes in capturing family memories. While we didn’t secure full funding to pull off the full-scale corner production—originally dubbed Krayons to Kids In Kars—the mission is still rolling forward, grassroots-style, with crayons and colored pencils in hand, and a 'supporting the arts' purpose backed with focus.
Whimsical Planet Launch Pad
This project blends art and engineering into a colorful, kinetic experience designed for kids in group settings—like guest speaking events at schools. The 7'x14' hand-painted Whimsical Planet backdrop featured in the promo video is the actual photograph being used to set the stage. The rest of the video is a simulation of the interactive launch pad we’re currently building in front of it.Lighting, movement, dry ice effects, and retracting mechanics—it’s all in the works.
The video gives a full preview of what’s coming to life.
Home Fire Tracker System – Actively Evolving
To better support kids after a home fire, we’ve started building a custom tracker system that logs incidents and helps guide our outreach.Part of the system is already in use—allowing us to spot recent fires, monitor activity, and respond quickly when support is needed.A more structured version is in the works, designed to track incident details, outreach efforts, and long-term impact. It’s still evolving—but it’s already making a difference behind the scenes.
Website Build – Phase 2
Phase 2 of the site is all about stepping things up—more clarity, more connection, and a stronger foundation for the mission moving forward. This round includes new pages for current projects, supporter visibility, improved transparency, and a smoother user experience across desktop and mobile. It’s being built in-house (yep, still hand-crafted), and is designed to grow alongside the mission. If you’re seeing this update, you’re already previewing part of Phase 2 in action.
